Suvi Parrilla The
central theme of my artistic practice is the construction of identity. I am
exploring the social status and cultural identities. Identity is indefinable
for me. It is defining itself over and over again.
It is
obvious that a lot of my work is also about ideas of spiritualism, religions
and collective awareness. I am fluently mixing those ideas to contemporary
concepts of power and cultural identities. These issues are still operating in
human mind of today even western culture of sceptical science do not agree with
them. The question of religion, spiritualism, science and business is, over
all, about power. I want to comment these different layers of human life and equivalence
between gender, age and cultural identities.
I am
working with performance art, photography and video. Late years I have been
active member of board of Artists Association MUU and Presentaatio association, which aim is to developing information of Finnish Performance and
Live Art. In MUU I have worked as a curator, workshop mentor and coordinator. My
work has seen internationally in Finland, Germany, Turkey, Spain, Sweden,
Russia, UK and Canada.
