Wedding dress is a disposable dream. People spend more
than their incomes allow,
just look good in
this very special day in their lives. The function of wedding dress
is to emphasize
the purity of maiden like bride. It is also working as a ritualistic
costume when maiden’s
social status rises from the Miss to Madam.
'Natural Woman' deals with
the obsession on weddings and wedding gowns.
My own dream of a princess wedding never materialized
as I found myself getting
married in the local
register office, with the baby almost due, dressed in a
Hennes & Mauritz maternity dress. Why this wedding dress has
ended up into
flea-market anyway? Because of the lack of storage room or the broken marriage:
unredeemed promises and broken hearts? Anyway it has the essence of every day
soap-opera,
what is always the key question in human mind. In the performance,
it is essential
that I perform in the second hand wedding dress.
The debyt of performance Natural Woman was presented in july 2005 in
Laitama – Art goes
Camping 2005 happening,
Helsinki
. Then
I let a professional
to tag “Fuck
Off” on my wedding dress by golden spray can paint.
In the Night of The Arts 2005 was the second
performance where I was exploring
the hidden
reasons for my wedding dress fetishism for the audience of Gallery Muu,
Helsinki.
